Hello, beasties! Happy New Year!!
Are you excited for the new year?
I am so excited for this new year! After such a redeeming year for me in my reading, I'm so excited to see what I can read for 2026!
Gearing up for this new year, I struggled with what to make for my reading goals. Part of me considered going back to including a numerical goal. But not having a goal felt so freeing last year! After discussing it with my boyfriend, I decided to continue that for this year.
And the past three years, my reading goals have more or less been the same. So I really wanted to make some new ones. Especially since I felt I was very successful with those goals last year!
So in the spirit of twenty-twenty-SIX, I've set 6 new reading goals for this year!
First ~ Embrace my inner mood reader!
As I mentioned earlier, I won't be giving myself a number goal. Instead, I plan just to read what makes me happy!
Second ~ Get through more of my physical backlist
I know, I know. I said I would make new goals. But I often feel overwhelmed by the amount of books I physically own! I did really well at reading books that I considered backlist books last year, and I really want to keep that up! And as a secondary goal, destash the books I don't love enough to keep.
Third ~ Finish my started series
Similar to my backlist goal, I really want to get through the series I have started and want to continue! I have SO MANY series that I'm in the middle of. And several, I'm on the last or second to last book. Oops!
Fourth ~ Read a book set in every state
I love to do reading challenges, and I've done "Across the States" several times now. But I've never completed it. I got a good amount last year, with 29 states! I would love to finally finish that this year!
Fifth ~ Travel to 15 countries with books
Similar to "Across the States", I also do a "Travel the World in Books" where I track the countries I visit. I've never gotten more than 10. So that's another challenge that I would like to see more books count towards! It would just be fun to see!
Sixth ~ Get my NetGalley ratio up!
This is one I've been so bad at! I'm extremely behind on my NetGalley ratio. It just doesn't help when they send us all the books we want! Haha! I'm very guilty of accepting them all. I did my best last year to read books that I had on there, but again, I'm guilty of taking on more. Because books. I think right now it's currently at like 23%? I doubt I'll ever get up to the preferred 80%, but I can dream! I would just like to get my ratio higher than it is now!
Oh, I'm so happy to get started on a new year of reading! I can't wait to see what I'll get to!
Did you set any reading goals for 2025?
