Opal Review

Updated: Apr 14, 2021

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different…

Rating: 4/5

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

This is the third book in the lux series!

This ending is so depressing! I was hoping for a happier book after my previous read which unfortunately also had a very depressing ending. Maybe my next read will have a happier ending?

The majority of this book is a bit infuriating and sad for me. There really wasn’t anything truly enjoyable about this one. Everything was sugar-coated with deceit and lies. There were some sweet and tender moments between Katy and Daemon. But almost all of these moments were ruined by an interruption or occurred right after a terrible event. Which that really hindered the tenderness of the moment. I’d say watching Katy and Daemon attending prom was my favorite moment that these two lovebirds shared throughout the whole book.

The entirety of the book flowed about the same as the previous Lux books. But due to the events that occurred in Onyx, there’s a disconnect between the majority of the characters and Katy. Katy’s relationship with Dee, especially. I do hope they’re able to mend their broken friendship, but it’s all up to Dee at this point. The true nature of Blake in Onyx came out at the end and it continues in Opal. Where we learn more about him in a way that honestly made me want to kill him.

Overall, I absolutely love this series, but I did not love this particular book. This one was a heart breaker. I feel torn about the events that occurred. I’m not sure what’s going to happen next. Though I can already tell the next book will be written in a different manner than the previous books. I’m excited and scared to continue with this series. I guess it’s a good thing I’m only going one of these a month. I’ll need a month to prepare myself for more heartbreak.

If you enjoyed the Twilight or Fallen series, or enjoy paranormal romances, you’ll definitely enjoy this series! Just be prepared for some heartbreak!
