A young boy puts a gun in his mouth and pulls the trigger. The police don't care - not about his death or the death of his best friend two months earlier. The dead boy's mom seeks help from an old flame that's employed as a detective. What she doesn't know is that he suffers from a physical deformity that manifests at midlife. Will the detective's freakish appearance get in the way of uncovering the terrible secrets of these two teenagers?
This was an interesting mystery read. I found this at my local used bookstore in the graphic novel section, and the cover intrigued me enough to want to pick it up. I had no idea what it was about, so I went into it blind, which I didn’t mind!
This follows a dark tale of a retired detective who an old friend reaches out to for help, asking for answers why her son would commit suicide shortly after his best friend commits suicide.
I didn’t know what to expect going into it. It seemed like a relatively short read based on the thickness of the book, and it wasn’t very long. But even though it's short, it does get really dark. It flows extremely well, and I didn’t want to put it down. It was what I thought, a fairly quick read. I finished this in a short couple of hours.
The storyline is definitely unique and not at all something I expected. I do wish it were longer. I would have liked to see more to this dark tale. Though I would definitely recommend this if you enjoy graphic novels and dark mysteries! Especially if you're trying to get into graphic novels, its short and fairly easy to follow if you aren't familiar with reading graphic novels.
