Please Remain Calm Review

I really hated this one. But I also really loved this one. I have very conflicted feelings.

Rating: 4/5

In this gripping sequel to THIS IS NOT A TEST, Rhys and Sloane are headed for a safe haven when they get separated along the way. Rhys is determined to reunite with Sloane until he discovers people who might need him more--people who offer him the closest he'll get to everything he's lost, if they can just hold on long enough.

Rhys thinks he has what it takes to survive and find the girl he lost, but in a world overrun by the dead, there are no guarantees and the next leg of his journey will test him in unimaginable ways ...

Okay… The ending of This is Not a Test was cruel. But the ending of Please Remain Calm is EVIL!! Pure evil! I will not remain calm. How could you do that to us, Courtney Summers! My heart is absolutely shattered! There needs to be a third part to this story, it can’t just end like that. I would have thrown this book against the wall if I had this in a physical book. Having read this off my phone, I will most definitely not being chucking it against the wall… But just imagine that I did! This ending feels cheated.

My heart is absolutely shattered! There needs to be a third part to this story, it can’t just end like that.

Please Remain Calm picks up immediately from where This is Not a Test ends, except we are now in the head of Rhy. And shortly after we start, Rhys and Sloane get separated. And Rhys is determined to find Sloane, refusing to believe the worst.

I won’t say too much more than that otherwise I might spoil it all for you. But I will say I loved that this one took place immediately after where This is Not a Test had ended, it was like there wasn’t any time that had passed. I don’t think this story could have worked any other way.

Please Remain Calm also gave me all the zombies I missed in This is Not a Test. It’s amazing in that aspect. Not to say there weren’t any zombies in This is Not a Test, but for this zombie junkie, there was not enough for me. But I definitely got my zombie fix with this one! With the extra amount of zombies, this might toe the line of being a bit scary for some. It goes into more details of the zombies, you get to see them up close and personal… Literally.

I definitely got my zombie fix with this one!

That being said, this is short. This is considered a short story being roughly 70 pages long. And I did feel it was over too soon. It’s left with a similar open ending that we got in the previous book. Except this ending is pure evil. Did I mention that yet? After everything Rhys has gone through now between both books, this ending just feels wrong. But I guess you can’t expect everything to end in happily ever after, especially where there’s a zombie apocalypse going on…

I really hated this one. But I also really loved this one. I have very conflicted feelings.

And I strongly suggest that you pick this one up! Especially if you’ve got a love for zombies as I do. Start with This is Not a Test and quickly follow it up with this one, Please Remain Calm. Just don’t expect a happy ending!
