Lawsuit and Leather Review

This was such an entertaining read! And I can't wait for the sequel.

Rating: 4/5

He loved me like a sister, and that alone made me want to die. Parker Jones was not only New York’s fiercest lawyer, but my childhood best friend and truest love.

Moving in together was supposed to be a dream come true, but doing so because my business failed was a nightmare.

Out of options—both with love and money— my future depended on the most important interview of my life.

Never could I have expected how missing that single opportunity could land me in the lap of Hollywood’s baddest boy, Alex Rivers.

Arrogantly persistent and devilishly handsome, Alex was determined to break through my walls and grant me the chance to follow my dreams as a fashion designer.

But the closer I got to Alex, the more Parker began to change. Once only a friend, Parker had now turned completely protective and stubbornly jealous, blurring the lines of what we once were.

All I wanted was a chance to start fresh, but being caught between two protective alphas had changed it all, both with their hidden secrets and untold desires.

What will happen when Hollywood’s biggest star and New York’s most vicious lawyer fight for the same woman? Every battle needs a winner, but who can win when a heart has to break?

I received a free ARC copy in return for my honest review! Thank you so much!

I really wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one. Based on the cover, I knew there would be a bad boy. And after Mae’s previous book, Burning Little Secrets, (check out my review here) that things will probably get steamy…

We follow Gemma, who’s in love with her best friend, Parker, but has been friend-zoned, after he told her he loved her like a sister. Gemma ends up in a nightmare, as her dreams of owning her own business fails, leaving her with no choice but to move in with Parker until she sorts out her career. Gemma has an interview in an attempt to save her career. At the interview, she ends up with the opportunity to work with Hollywood actor and known bad boy, Alex Rivers. However, as soon as Parker hears about it, he’s insistent that Gemma not take the job, becoming jealous and overprotective.

This was such an entertaining read. From the start, I was intrigued as we follow good girl, Gemma. She’s always doing what she’s told. But once Alex Rivers comes into the picture, she really started to grow in both confidence and just not being pushed around and told what to do as easily anymore. And her budding romance with Alex was simply captivating. Despite Alex’s arrogance, he seemed to truly care for Gemma and her well-being. Being around Alex was so good for Gemma, I thought. I should also mention, there is a slight age gap between Gemma and Alex. This wasn’t even apparent to me until well into the book, when it’s being thrown in my face. I wasn’t bothered by it. In fact, I was a little more like “Oh… You’re an older man…” It didn’t deter me from shipping these two. I am definitely Team Alex!

This was such an entertaining read. From the start, I was intrigued... And her budding romance with Alex was simply captivating.

I didn’t care for how Gemma’s “best friend,” Parker treated her. Well… I shouldn’t necessarily say that. At the beginning, I was 100%, Team Parker. I totally hoped that Gemma and Parker would get together. But the further we would get into the story, the more Parker frustrated me. I wanted to smack him. More than once. Especially for what he does at the end. What the hell, Parker?!

I will also say, I was slightly disappointed in the lack of steam. But knowing this is the start of a series, I’ll forgive it. And that’s not to say there was no steam… And I don’t know how to really word this without spoiling it so… Please skip the following paragraph if you’d like.

I will also say, I was slightly disappointed in the lack of steam...

*minor minor spoiler*

The steam we get was a bit awkward… For me… We get to see three steamy scenes, two are daydreams, and only one scene was real. And it's the second one that made me a little uncomfortable as it was more than just a “daydream.”

*no more spoilers going forward*

But given all that I’ve mentioned, I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. I need to know what happens next for Gemma. I very much hope she continues her romance with Alex. And I hope to see a little more steam between them!

I think this will be a great read for anyone who enjoys Contemporary Romances! Especially one involving a love triangle and a bad boy! Also, those who like age gaps!
