He was the most beautiful man alive.
And if I wasn't careful, he was going to be my death.
A scorchingly hot modern retelling of Psyche and Eros that's as sinful as it is sweet.
In the ultra-modern city of Olympus, there's always a price to pay. Psyche knew she'd have to face Aphrodite's ire eventually, but she never expected her literal heart to be at stake...or for Aphrodite's gorgeous son to be the one ordered to strike the killing blow.
Eros has no problem shedding blood. But when it comes time to take out his latest target, he can't do it. Confused by his reaction to Psyche, he does the only thing he can think of to keep her safe: he marries her. Psyche vows to make Eros's life a living hell until they find a way out of this mess. But as lines blur and loyalties shift, she realizes he might take her heart after all...and she's not sure she can survive the loss.
I don’t think I’ve ever continued a series as fast as I did with this book. After finishing Neon Gods, I had to start the next one. And oh boy! I think this will be my favorite of the whole series! And I haven’t even read the others yet (I’m now fully caught up with this series, this is still my favorite!)
While Hades and Persephone are my favorite Greek Gods' romance, I truly adore this retelling of the romance between Eros and Psyche. And the reason is probably the reference this story makes at the end of this being a sort of Beauty and the Beast type of love story. I didn’t see this connection until the end, but once it came up, it’s all I could think about!
Eros is seen as Olympus’ monster, being Aphrodite’s son and doing all her dirty. He’s one of the most dangerous men of Olympus. But after an encounter with Aphrodite’s nemesis, Demeter’s daughter, Psyche, who showed him kindness despite knowing how dangerous he is, Eros can’t bring himself to kill her on Aphrodite’s orders. So instead, he convinces her to marry him.
Seeing all the details now, I’m honestly surprised at myself that I didn’t make this connection sooner. I’m disappointed in myself, actually! I love Beauty and the Beast retellings. Anyway, it's safe to say, I adored this book! Even before making that connection, that just made me love it even more afterwards.
I loved the dynamic between Eros and Psyche. How protective and caring Eros is towards Psyche. Another aspect I loved was that Psyche is considered to be a plus-size girl, so that made this even more enjoyable for me, being a plus-size girl myself.
One aspect that I especially enjoyed outside the romance was seeing more of the world-building around this Olympus society. It was interesting to see more of the political plays in the aftermath of the previous book. Again, just leaving me wanting more in that regard!
As I mentioned, this was easily a favorite for me. I loved the Eros and Psyche romance. I couldn’t get enough of these two lovebirds. I’m sad it's over. This is probably one installment of this series I will reread in the future.
If you enjoy Beauty and the Beast retellings, Greek Mythology retellings, and spicy romances, definitely consider picking this one up!
