Ceremony of Ashes Review

This is a great spooky read! It would be a perfect Halloween read too!

Rating: 4/5

Adrian Holloway's life is turned upside down after receiving a disquieting phone call.

His sister and niece have gone missing, and his mother is in shambles.

Something malicious is lurking in his old hometown. Children are going missing and their mothers are turning up dead. People are afraid to go out. Rumors spread from house to house. Blood. Ritual murder. Sacrifice and mutilation.

Sins of the past become unearthed. A woman, whose powers are beyond imagination, is soon to extract her vengeance on the entire town. She can make the dead talk, breathe fire, and turn a man into an animal.

Only Adrian and a young female constable know the truth. Only they can stop her.

This is a great spooky read! It would be a perfect Halloween read too! As the events start on Halloween night. I went into this novella with no expectations except for a spooky read. But man, this did not disappoint! It had me spellbound all the way through! No pun intended. This was my first book by Ducharme, I can already tell that I’m going to want to read anything and everything he writes from now on. This was such a good horror story.

As I mentioned, this starts on Halloween night, as we follow a mother and daughter trick or treating. Next, we see the mother’s brother is called and told she and her daughter are missing. No later after her brother returns to his home town does other incidents occur. All filled with witchy vibes. This book is dark and sinister through and through. Though I’ll admit the ending took a turn I didn’t expect. I didn’t think it would end the way it did!

Like I said earlier, this had me fully captivated from beginning to end. This flowed immensely well, all the events occurred just over a matter of days. Being only about 135 pages, I read this in just a few short hours. I didn’t want to put it down. This book is filled with witchcraft and murder and is gorily detailed, for a horror story, what’s better than that?

I don’t want to go into too much detail otherwise I’ll spoil all the fun! I definitely think anyone’s who’s a fan of horror and witchcraft would enjoy this one! Just don’t expect a happily ever after! This one is ghastly and forbidding! Be warned, if gory details are too much, this might not be for you.
