Building Desire Review

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

Trevor and Mercedes both have their own had their fair share of heartbreak. Neither are ready to open their hearts again, but they can’t deny their attraction for one another.

Rating: 3/5

Renovating houses is easy compared to mending a broken heart. Even though it’s been months since he left, I still can’t seem to move past the pain. And maybe I don’t want to. Until Trevor arrives…Handsome, charming, and exactly what I don’t need right now. I shouldn’t open my heart to him. Yet the more time we spend together, the harder it is to deny the truth. He may be just what I need. But the secret he’s keeping could destroy everything we’ve built. So can old wounds and feelings thought long-buried. Will it all come crumbling down around me, or can love find a way to weather the storm?

I received a free copy of this story directly from the author, Aimee Sue in return for my honest review. Thank you so much for the opportunity! I truly enjoyed this book!

Going into this all I really knew was it was a contemporary romance. From the start things felt off, I felt a bit lost in what was happening and the overall setting of where this took place. Shortly after things fell into place and I really started to enjoy reading this.

We follow two characters, Trevor and Mercedes both have their own had their fair share of heartbreak. Neither are ready to open their hearts again, but they can’t deny their attraction for one another. Bouncing between each of the perspectives of the characters, we get to see their thoughts as they fight against opening up to each other and the love they feel.

The pace of this book was much faster than I felt it needed to be. I know that the events that occur happen over a few weeks, but with how it read it felt like it only happened in a matter of days. It was like they met, instant attraction, denial, sex, conflict, then finally kiss and make up. There was barely a pause. It was much shorter than I anticipated.

Though despite the rocky start and being slightly faster paced than I hoped, it was still an enjoyable read. I’m definitely a sucker for contemporary romances. I definitely want to read her sequel which focuses on a different set of characters from this book.

Overall, I think if you enjoy contemporary romances filled with lust and love, you’ll definitely enjoy this one. It was a fun quick read, I’m happy to have read it.
