As Old As Time Review

Updated: Dec 14, 2020

Fairytale meets thriller.

Rating: 5/5

I finished this beauty last night before going to bed and wow! So many thoughts... This is one of Disney's Twisted Tales, which are all stand alone novels. You don't have to read them in order as they aren't connected unlike the Villains novels by Serena Valentino.

As Old As Time is a retelling of my all time favorite story, Beauty and The Beast. The twist? What if Belle's mother cursed the Beast?

If I could describe this book in 5 words or less? Fairytale meets thriller.

By default this book has gained a spot on my favorites shelf just for being a Beauty and The Beast retelling. However, this is probably not my favorite rendition of this fairytale.

Instead of Belle never knowing the full truth about the curse, she discovers what truly happened to the Beast and that it was her mother who cursed him.

Though, I didn't enjoy everything that happened in this twisted tale. It was an interesting take on this tale. Adding depth to the background of the Beast's Kingdom, Belle's village, and her mother. As I mentioned before this book had a very distinct thriller vibe as it breaks away from the usual storyline. Instead of Belle never knowing the full truth about the curse, she discovers what truly happened to the Beast and that it was her mother who cursed him. After this discovery, Belle tries to help the Beast break his curse and find her mother.

I think all fans of Beauty and The Beast should read this and decide for themselves their feeling towards this novel. I very much enjoyed it! I hope you do too!
